The kick-off meeting of the ALCYONE project was held at the School of Aerospace Engineering of Sapienza University of Rome on January 24, 2023.

This project, funded by the Horizon Europe program, aims to design and develop a mini-laboratory capable of studying the effects of radiation during space missions. Coordinated by the University of Rome Sapienza, the project brings together an international team of universities and companies that will work together to develop an analysis platform for cellular cultures that can operate on-board small satellites and in robotic and crewed space missions. This micro-laboratory (lab-on-chip) will be equipped with thin film sensors and actuators and will use bioluminescence to study the effects of radiation. Within the project, Kayser Italia will be responsible for the design and realization of the control electronics, the mechanical structure and the fluidic system.
