Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Cape Canaveral, September 14th 2025. OCS has been launched on board NG-23 and transported inside ISS and successfully installed on MSL-EML on October 6th, 2025.

OCS commissioning will be scheduled soon by ESA/NASA.

The Material Science Laboratory Electromagnetic Levitator (MSL-EML) is a multi-user facility, hosted in the European Space Ageny EDR inside International Space Station, for the melting and solidification of conductive metals, alloys, or semiconductors in ultra-high vacuum, or in high-purity gaseous atmospheres. Kayser Italia has already contributed to the development of MSL-EML (under Airbus contract) by developing some of the internal boards of its Control Electronics in 2011 and that since then are fully operative.

Kayser Italia is glad to announce that the Material Science Laboratory Electromagnetic Levitator is going to be improved by the addition of the Oxygen Sensing and Control System (OCS) equipment that allows precisely determining and controlling the oxygen partial pressure in the process atmosphere of MSL-EML facility. This makes additional material science measurements possible under a specifically adjustable oxygen atmosphere. Kayser Italia, under Airbus and ESA contract, has developed OCS Control Electronics, its application and control software, electrical harness and interface cables to EDR.
