The aim of the Skill Training Camp I is to provide to the students also an educational training that can be useful for the future involvement of young scientists in the search for a job.

Kayser Italia, as industrial partner of the FACT Consortium, will organize specific lectures held by leading experts in the field of communications and consulting, covering the following topics:

  • professional  writing
  • communication skills
  • planning and running meetings
  • performance reporting
  • Creating  and  Giving  Effective  Presentations  to  Groups
  • effective  outreach
  • effective  CV  writing
  • effective  interview techniques
  • dissertation writing

The Camp will be addressed to the PhD students of the FACT Consortium as well as other students, post-docs, young scientists and engineers interested in the topics object of the training.

NATO and CYTOSPACE EST at Kayser Italia

8-19 November 2014, Livorno, Italy

The Experiment Sequence Test (EST) of Nanoparticles and Osteoporosis (NATO) and Cell Shape and Expression (CYTOSPACE) has successfully been carried out in Kayser Italia premises between the 8th and the 19th of November 2014.  The NATO and CYTOSPACE experiments are two among the ASI experiments to be performed by Samantha Cristoforetti in the frame of the FUTURA mission. The EST is a simulation of the activities to be carried out at launch site and a test of the scientific protocol. The NATO and CYTOSPACE experiments are schedule for upload to the ISS with SpX-6 in April 2015.

ELGRA biennial symposium

11-14 September 2013, Vatican city (VC)

Kayser Italia attended the symposium and participated with three oral communications: in "An Italian hub for space activities: Kayser Italia" the ICARO (Italian Centre for Advanced Research and Operations) was presented as well as the support activities to ASI for the ISS utilization. In "Elite S2: a facility for quantitative human movement analysis" an overview of the experiments performed by the ESA astronaut Leopold Eyharts and by the NASA astronauts Garrett Reisman and Kevin Ford during Increments 16/17 and 33/34 between 2008 and 2013 was given. ELITE-S2 is still on board, to be used for the ASI experiments MOVE SB and SHRINK, by italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti. In "Next Coming Experiments From Kayser Italia", planned biological experiments developed by KI.

9-12 April 2013, Noordwijk (ND)

The NIH-1a team, composed by Kayser Italia engineers and scientists from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, University of California, took part in the experiment sequence test (EST). The EST, an end-to-end validation test that assures flight readiness of the experiment, was carried out at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC). The NIH-1a experiment is now waiting for launch.

European Lab-on-a-Chip Congress

5-6 March 2013, Barcelone (ES)

Kayser Italia attended the Lab on a Chip congress in Barcelona. The agenda topics spreads from Life Science Applications, Microfabrication/Engineering, Point-of-Care Diagnostics and Single Cell Analysis. Microfluidics is envisioned as a promising menas for last generation technologies for space applications.

2nd IAA Conference on University Satellites Missions and Cubesat Winter Workshop

4-8 February 2013, Rome (IT)

Kayser Italia presented two papers, the "BIOCUBE: a new Experiment Unit for biomedical research in space" and "Tensegrity architecture for small satellites deployable structures" at the 2nd IAA Conference on University Satellites Missions and Cubesat Winter Workshop managed by the Group of Astrodynamics for the Use of Space Systems (GAUSS). Kayser Italia presented two work hypotheses to enhance the use of cubesats: in the field of biology by means of self-standing analytical system and experiment unit and by the involvement of tensegrity structures for re-entry.

ISLSWG workshop

1 August 2012, Freiburg (Germany)

In the frame of the International Plant Biology Congress, Kayser Italia participated as speaker to the ISLSWG (International Space Life Science Working Group) workshop “Plant Biology in Space”. The hardware, namely Experiment Units, developed by Kayser Italia to carry out research on plants in weightlessness was presented.

42nd International Conference in Environmental Systems

15-19 July 2012, San Diego, California (USA)

Kayser Italia presented the paper "On an innovative deployment concept for large space structures" at the 42nd ICES conference organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). The subject of the paper was the deployable TSS - Tensegrity Space Structures studied in the frame of an ESA contract.

21 December 2011, Baikonur

The RESLEM team, composed of some Kayser Italia engineers, is on its way to Russia for the experiment handover. The experiment cells will be launched on the Soyuz flight 29S, scheduled for Dec,21 8:16 AM EST.

17 November 2011, Mongolia

The Chinese spacecraft Shenzhou-8, carrying the German SIMBOX experiment, landed on schedule in the Gobi desert in Inner Mongolia (19:38 local time 12:38 CET), completing a successful 17-day mission. SIMBOX, which contains 17 biological and medical experiments, was retrieved by a helicopter crew.
